Returns, Refunds & Policies

Please review your files and order before submitting. Customer is fully responsible for final images and layout prior to the printing process.

All artwork, designs and images must be provided in minimum of 300 DPI and PDF mode. Hero & Villain Designs is not responsible for images printed as fuzzy, distorted or pixelated due to customer provided artwork.

Covers and comics need 1/8 inch of bleed on every side, so that file is 1/4 inch wider and 1/4 inch taller than the trim. Paperback interior pages are different: add 1/8 inch of bleed on the top, bottom, and outside edge of each page, with no bleed on the spine side. The interior file is 1/8 inch wider and 1/4 inch taller than the trim. A 5.5 by 8.5 interior page is a 5.625 by 8.75 file. A 6 by 9 interior page is a 6.125 by 9.25 file. Run the image or background out through the bleed, or a white line can show after the cut. Bleed cannot be white if you want full color edge to edge printing.

When formatting your images, be sure to account for the safety margin. This is the safe area or inner margin in which to keep all important elements (such as logos, text, signatures, page numbers or anything you deem important and don't want trimmed off) within to prevent them from being trimmed off. This margin should be at least 1/8" inside the edge of the trim line (not the bleed edge).

You are responsible for problems that come from the files you send, including misspelling, graphics, bleeds, grammar, damaged fonts, punctuation, die lines, crop marks, transparency, and overprint. If a cut, fold, or finished size does not match an approved physical proof you ordered, that is reviewed under Misprints, on a case by case basis.

By submitting your order to Hero & Villain Designs: you as the customer agree to the following:

I have verified that spelling and content are correct. I am satisfied with the document layout. I understand that my document will print EXACTLY as it appears in the files sent, that I cannot make any changes once my order is placed and that I assume all responsibility for typographical errors.

Proofs are physical proofs only, with no digital proof approval.

A physical proof is optional. If you order one, look it over carefully, including spelling, page order, trim, foil placement, and edge artwork. When you approve that physical proof, that is your OK for us to print the full run to match it. Please send corrections in writing, ideally all in one email.

A production error that was not visible on an approved physical proof is reviewed under Misprints.

Screens glow and paper does not, so printed color will not match your monitor exactly. Please send files in CMYK. If a file arrives in RGB, we convert it, and some bright colors may shift.

Foil, holographic, metal, and glow covers catch the light differently from every angle. Foil or spot UV can sit slightly off from where it shows on screen. Printed edges are finished by hand, so one book can differ a little from the next: a small color change, a softer edge on the design, or pages that need a gentle fan apart. Interior paper is white only. Paper stocks can differ slightly as well.

Color can also shift a little between print runs, so a reorder may not match an earlier batch exactly. These normal differences are not considered misprints. A production error that is outside these normal differences is reviewed under Misprints.

Orders may not be cancelled or refunded once they have gone into production or any process thereafter. Absolutely no refunds will be issued once an order has been Printed or any process thereafter, including but not limited to Printing, Coating, and / or Finishing.

Once the order has been placed successfully, No Refunds are issued for the Logo, and Graphic design services.

All Hero & Villain Designs customers agree not to hold Hero & Villain Designs liable for delays in shipments caused by weather conditions, shipping company delays, international customs issues or any other circumstances beyond Hero & Villain Designs direct control. Hero & Villain Designs shipment and delivery dates are calculated based upon estimates provided by our suppliers.

Hero & Villain Designs will always act to make sure that delivery schedules are met. However, unexpected equipment failure, malfunction and or technical problems may delay the printing process. Technical difficulty will not be grounds for order cancellation.

Our current turnaround is 2 to 3 weeks once we have print-ready files, and your approved physical proof if you ordered one. As a small shop, this can vary: during convention season or when we have larger orders in the queue, it may take longer, and other times orders may be finished sooner.

A date is not guaranteed unless we confirm it with you in writing. If we have questions about your files, the clock pauses until we hear back, so please keep an eye on your email, including the spam folder.

Shipping is quoted per order.

FedEx is our main carrier. Other arrangements can be made on an individual basis.

Every order is packed with care. All of our products are bagged, then packed in double boxes with corner posts inside an outer double-walled box to help reduce damage during shipping.

Hero & Villain Designs can only use its own shipping account and will not use customer provided account numbers for any couriers. Orders must be shipped at whole quantities and may not be split up.

Local pickup is free at our Peoria warehouse during business hours (Mon to Fri, 7 AM to 5 PM Arizona time).

Lost or damaged claims can only be filed for shipments over $50.00 in value and can only be done after 30 days from package shipment. Hero & Villain Designs is not responsible for 3rd party shipping errors, omissions or damaged shipments.

We reserve the right to refuse service without disclosing a reason.

Prices are subject to change without further notice.

We print your files exactly as supplied and approved. Issues that originate in the submitted files, such as low resolution images, missing bleed, content outside the safety margin, spelling and layout errors, or incorrect sizing, are the responsibility of the customer and are not eligible for a refund or reprint.

If you believe an error occurred during our production process, please contact us with photos as soon as possible and we will review it on a case by case basis. Normal color and finish differences described above are not misprints. When we agree a production error affected your order, our responsibility is limited to the amount you paid for the affected items.

About foil variance: Our foil is applied with a camera-aligned, liquid UV process, so results are not always 100% identical from piece to piece. Small variances can occur and are not considered misprints. Fine or clustered details, thin vertical lines, very small text, and large flooded foil areas are the most likely to show slight variation. If anything in your foil file concerns us, we will do our best to let you know before we begin printing.
